As the sun rises the fishermen are already off to a great start. Most know the best spots but for those of you who don’t, there are guides available to get you started. Drop a line at your dock or off the boat – excellent fishing in these two lakes. Fly fishing is a favorite with many and the area is considered to be one of the top fly fishing destinations in the East, offering outstanding settings from which to enjoy the sport as well as bring home dinner! Plenty of choices for learning the sport from the experts if you just make the time.

Don’t have a boat? There are boats to rent and in fact there is a boat club that offers almost every option you’d like and will deliver it right to you so you can maximize your day.

Sunrise, and sunset for that matter, also brings out the kayaks. The lake is so peaceful during these hours that you can just glide along and enjoy an intimacy with the lake that you won’t get on a larger boat. Kayaks are great for exploring the rivers and creeks with a few like minded buddies.

Are you a bit more adventurous? How about a sea doo? Water skiing? We even have one neighbor who is an “Sky Ski” fanatic. He makes sitting on your deck watching the lake activities more exciting than ever!

The marina – just another venue for the outdoor life style offered – hop on your boat, enjoy a swim at the pool or just luxuriate on the veranda overlooking the lake with a cool summer drink and enjoy the beauty.

This is horse country too and an increasing number of folks moving here are making the decision because having horses IS an option. You can find acreage and have horses or live in a community that offers Equestrian facilities. At the Keowee Vineyards Equestrian Center you can enjoy a trail ride, have the youngsters take a pony ride or riding lessons and even book a picnic lunch ride. Not much of a horse person? Then perhaps the annual “Kentucky Derby” Party at the Equestrian Center that includes a bluegrass band, mint juleps and bourbon tasting should be on your calendar.

Cycling the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway is what we’d call a challenging ride but George Hincapie of Greenville isn’t the only one who has discovered that it is a “cycling rush” to follow the ancient Cherokee path.

Most active people consider some time in a wellness/fitness center a mandatory part of their day. Classes at the Vineyards start as early as 8 am and weekly offerings include yoga, sports yoga, golf conditioning, step and strength; take your pick! Of course there is always the “friendly” game of tennis if you are inclined.

Not every activity has to be physical. Bridge for the ladies or couple bridge – Bunco for an afternoon break – family night at the club, meeting new friends and neighbors – gourmet wine dinners for exploring great wines from around the world and determining which foods they pair with best.
